100 Year Old Antique Violin Custom Framing Details
We at Long Island Picture Frame & Art Gallery love to frame old antique family heirlooms!
Carol came in and want to preserve her Uncle's Antique Violin, she gave us the back story that he used to play this on the radio in the early 1900's.
She set the violin down on our design counter and said what can we do with this?
When you custom frame a 3 dimensional item there are times you want visible the whole item so we coin this framing a reverse shadowbox, the item is not recessed into a box we create a clear UV acrylic box that protrudes out the front of the frame so the whole item is visible.
We selected a vintage Larson Juhl Harrison burl frame with gold beading for that vintage old world look. We attached the violin down to a oatmeal tweed linen fabric mat and we added an engraved plaque under the violin which we raised by 1/2" off the mat.
Carol and her husband loved the piece and so did we! We feel this piece should be hanging in the Museum for radio violinists!

When presented with a photograph like this signed by guitar legend Zakk Wylde and Rock & Roll iconic photographer Neil Zlozower we wanted to keep this signed photo very rock & roll, we wanted the visual to feel like it was ripped form the walls of Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
We selected a heavy marble textured outer mat grays and blacks to compliment Neil's black & white photo, since Zakk signed this piece with a silver sharpie we used a silver inner mat to enhance the signature and lined the third mat with a rich black suede to make the whole piece have depth. We brought the whole piece together using a chain link style fence that matches the mic stand in the photo.
When our dear friend Mark picked this piece up he was blown away!
