Schery Markee Sullivan began her formal training studying with abstract painter Robert Kaupelis at NYU in the Creative Arts Master’s Program. Her watercolors are defined by a dynamic expression of color, line and vibrant energy. Ranging in scope from elegant florals to intricate mask collages, to abstracts and primitive creature pieces or powerful figurative paintings, the work is a diverse spectrum of creative force.

Her watercolors are defined by a dynamic expression of color, line, and vibrant energy.  Ranging in scope from elegant florals, to intricate mask collages, to abstract and primitive creature pieces or powerful figurative paintings, the work is a diverse spectrum of creative force.

The developing body of work includes the following:
Mother and Child Series
Begun 1975 and worked through all mediums to its present form in watercolor
Over 20 paintings have been sold from this evocative depiction of the most profound human bond.  In November 1999, the Nassau County Museum of Art Bookstore sold Embrace, a vivid, dramatic example of this series.  The signature piece from this collection, Keeper, was the basis of Call to Arms, a one woman show given by Long Island Picture Frame and Gallery.

Circle Mask Series
This collage series involves the layering of masks and their multidimensional meaning. Included in this collage series are: In Another House, Queen of Hearts, and In This House Divided.  A central work from this series, Discarding the Skin of Dreams, was on display at the Islip Museum in 1997.

Instincts Series
The primitive nature of man and beast is explored and depicted using a spontaneous yet simple, earthy quality. Examples of this series are Shy Beast, Double Dance, Night Falls, and Nocturne.  A show based on this grouping was given by Altamira Gallery/Islip in 1998.

Blue Horse / Blue Moon Series
This series includes a large selection of purely abstract work, e.g., Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and also such pieces as Orange Jigs a Little, Blue Moon Woman and Pink Moon Rising.

Other series include:
Ringmaster, Man / Woman, American Landscape, Beat the Drum, and The Blue and White Vase series, which is the most popular of the artist’s floral work.

The artist’s works have been sold through Owl 57 Gallery, Woodmere since 1980 and are currently being carried by Long Island Picture Frame and Art Gallery, Altamira / Islip, Garden City Galleries and the Nassau County Museum of Fine Art gift shop in Roslyn Harbor.

In 1999, Schery was an artist-in-residence for the Wantagh School District
